Hello Ladies, Has anyone ever had to have a baby moved from the breech position prior to delivery? I am having that next week and was wondering how painful it will be. If you had it, did it work? Love, Texancaro  |

At the risk of beating a dead horse -- it's possible to have this done by acupuncture. (Sorry to be such a freak about advocating acupuncture, it's just been a real lifesaver for me!) I didn't need it done, but when I was talking to my acupuncturist about the pregnancy in general, she said that was one of the things she could treat for. Your Needle Addict  Stinky |

Thank you, Sticky....I mean Stinky! (You are very funny, CT) I have tried acupuncture and found it kind of weird, but not bad. I think I would rather see what the doctor can do. My sister is an Ob/Gyn and she says the EPV can very successful. Love, Texancaro |

First of all...CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby!!!! It's been a looooong time since I've tuned into the happenings of the Operamoms. I'm so glad I went online and read your post inquiring about epv's. I am one of those gals that had this procedure done and it turned out sooooo much better than I ever expected.!!!!!
When I was pregnant with my son 4 1/2 yrs ago I was having dreadful discomfort toward my last trimester. In my 8 month I was told he was breech (w/feet down). I was sent home to do all sorts or exercises in weird positions to get him to flip around on his own, but nothing worked. Finally they recommended an external version. All was done at the hospital in case I went into labor. They gave me drugs for pain and something else to prevent contractions. They lubed my belly extensively and checked for baby position, cord placement and amniotic fluid levels. In my case all was good and the baby even had repositioned himself into a different breech position where his legs were up; therefore in a "V" position with buttocks down and head and legs up... a better position for him to be able to turn around. With doctors hands (2 doctors, 4 hands) on top of belly they carefully cupped their hands around head and buttocks and with alot of pressure of sliding hands they persuaded the baby to turn around. This took about 15 or so min. to get him to turn. Was it uncomfortable and painful??? I remember there not being much pain due to them giving me intravenous pain medication but instead lots of pressure making a little difficult to breath.....but the relief I felt when it over was overwhelming. I had worked myself into a wreck expecting the worse and was even told to expect bruising on my tummy. None of that happened. I was soooo excited about feeling better and knowing the baby was okay I told my husband to take me to the mall and then we went out to lunch.
I remember the doctors telling me that the success rate of getting the baby to cooperate depends on the baby and cord position and amniotic fluid level. I'm sure your doctors have talked to you about this already. The drugs and great doctors also contributed to my positive experience.
As a result I went into labor on my own one day after my due date and because dialation for me happened so quickly I had no choice but to have him with no epidural. He was born within one hour of me getting to the hospital. The experience is somewhat intense for me, but I have to say compared to the alternative of my son being breech and having a C-Section and me worrying...I wouldn't of wanted it any other way.
Now a days my 4 1/2 lovely little monster runs around all the time tormenting his 7 year old sister and our cat and is obsessed with superheros!!!!.
I hope my reply helps you feel better. I will be thinking of you this week. Let me know how all turns out.....in the meantime talk to your baby alot and tell him to be good and do a "monkey flip".

Wow, Annette!  Thank you so much for the blow by blow account of what to expect!! That was so helpful! I am pretty uncomfortable right now and still am unsure if this bundle of joy has turned. They are scanning on Feb. 2nd and then scanning and maybe turning Feb. 3rd. I really appreciate your kind words and thoughts more than you know. I talk to this baby of mine and say flip and get ready. I am ready for him to be here. Glad singing is going well! I have to say I sound like Brunnhilde right now. I have a lesson tomorrow and haven't had one in about 3 months. I really feel like I look like Jane Eaglan. I have gained about 40 lbs. Eeek...bigger than last time! Oh well. So much for good intentions! ;D I hope I do not have a c-section. My first gig back is May and I really need to start firing up the body about 2 weeks after! love, Texancaro |

Hi Annette, Strangely enough I had a really good voice lesson! ;D My teacher said that it is because all the tendons and muscles are really loose getting ready for birth. My larynx and tongue were easy and so was my passaggi! Yippee! I will let you know what happens tomorrow! love, Tex |

I'm so happy your baby decided to do the "flip" on his own!!!!! That's so wonderful!!!!! I have to mention .....if he can do such somersaults in a tight space then I would suspect he may be very active around your home in later years or maybe even an Olympian in one of our future Olympic gymnastics. hahahaha!!
Relax as much as you can and enjoy your wonderful pregnancy and of course....sing, sing, sing!
